Yesterday, I heard from the news saying that 60 over items will be charged GST starting from 1 July. Some of the items are like our usual food like potato, seafood and vegetable.
This morning, there is an update on this matter and it seems like these are merely suggestions that have not been approved by the government... hmm...
So, according to this morning's news, it's stated that these 60 items will NOT be charged GST. False alarm I guess?
Actually, what is GST?
GST is the acronym of goods and services tax. The rate is fixed at 6% and this was implemented effective from 1 April 2015.
According to the above chart, Malaysia is charging a relatively low GST rate in comparison to our neighbouring countries like Singapore (7% GST), Indonesia ((10% GST) and Thailand ((7% GST). However, since GST was imposed, we often hear about the mass complaining about the higher cost in our daily consumption and it's a burden to many of us.
So, what is your take on this?
